lemon smoothie

What’s in it?

  • 1 cup filtered water
  • 6 medjool dates, pitted
  • 1⁄4 cup raw cashews
  • 1 whole small lemon – peeled and pips removed
 (keep the skin handy)
  • 1 medium banana (frozen is best)
  • 1 Tbsp sunwarrior protein powder (vanilla/no flavour) *optional
  • ¼ tsp organic stevia powder/ 1 Tbsp coconut nectar
  • 1 tsp non alcoholic, organic vanilla extract
  • 1⁄2 tsp freshly grated lemon zest
(this is the very outer part of the skin)
  • pinch Celtic sea salt
  • 2 cups ice

What to do?

Place all ingredients in your high-speed blender, and blend on high until smooth and creamy.
Play with flavours if you need to, and add more ice if you desire.

Serve in your favourite glass or even make it into a breakfast creation by adding some chia seeds and making into a porridge – this would also work as a dessert.. yummy.

‘Starbucks in Hawaii’ Smoothie

Raw Skinny Smoothie Recipe

I am about to go on Holiday to Hawaii very soon, and I used to be addicted to my daily ‘Mocha Frappuccino’ when I lived in Japan – so I wanted to combine two things that really excite me, and bring them to you!  A coconutty, chocolatey, island-y, type of drink that you will be wanting again and again…

  • 1 frozen banana, (peel, chop into 6/7 pieces and freeze)
  • 1 tbsp raw cacao powder
  • 1 tsp maca powder (optional)
  • 1 whole vanilla bean (or 1/2 tsp organic vanilla essence)
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 cup Coconut Water
  • 1/2 cup almond milk
  • 1 tbsp raw cacao nibs

Put all ingredients except for the nibs into the Vitamix/high speed processor, and blend until smooth – add more frozen banana if you want a thicker consistency.  Add cacao nibs and blend just enough to mix through and break down slightly.  Some may rather adding the nibs at the beginning, say, if you are using a small straw to drink…  Totally personal preference.  If you are serving this to impress guests, top with some bee pollen and extra cacao nibs…

Green Clean Smoothie

  • 1 cup of green seedless grapes
  • 1 whole apple (you can use every part of the apple, including stem, core, seeds etc-cut in half)
  • 1 whole pear (use entire pear, cut in half)
  • 1-2 cups spinach leaves (or silverbeet leaves with the stem removed)
  • 2 leaves kale (remove thick middle stem)
  • 1 tbsp chia seeds
  • 1-2 cups ice cubes

Basically you just put everything into your blender (or even better, your Vitamix) and blend on high until it’s super smooth.  This mix is delicious and is excellent for cleansing your liver and internal organs.  A healthy liver is such an important factor in health and weight loss, so really look after your liver.  That means staying hydrated, clean eating, no processed or fatty foods, and stress relief whenever you can manage it also.  Stress can really put a holt on your weight loss efforts, so really try to find a daily activity that gives you great pleasure/relaxation, and do it every day.

Recipe by Raw Skinny

  • 1 pomegranate (seeds and flesh only)
  • 1 banana
  • 1 cup frozen pineapple, no core
  • 1 orange, peeled and deseeded
  • 1 large leaf spinach/chard/silverbeet * optional
  • 1 cup ice
  • 1/2 – 1 cup filtered water, depending on desired consistency

Place pom seeds with all other ingredients into a processor or VITAMIX (yes, my all time favourite kitchen appliance) and wizzz into a beautiful concoction!  This is jam packed with anti-oxidants and guarantees a gorgeous glow to any Raw Skinny enthusiast!

How to ‘wrangle’ a pomegranate……??  huh??

To remove the seeds from the pom, simply cut it in half and put it into a big bowl of water.  Then scoop out the inside of the fruit and discard the skin.  Break the inside cream coloured matter away from the seeds.  The seeds drop to the bottom of the bowl, whereas everything else floats.  Simply remove the matter on top of the water and strain the seeds from the water! VOILA!!!  Now you are an expert in ‘wrangling pomegranates’.. hee hee.

an easier and more updated method!!!  Yay!

Stay tuned for a video!!

Pina Lovada

  • 1/2 pineapple, cut into chunks, then frozen (in a baggy or container)
  • 1 thai young coconut – meat and juice all thrown it
  • pinch stevia powder/ 4 drops of liquid
  • 2 handfuls of fresh mint leaves
  • 1 tsp vanilla essence or 1 full vanilla bean
  • pinch sea salt

Throw all of these slurpilicious ingredients into a high powered blender/processor (I use the amazing Vitamix) and blend so that it becomes super smooth and delicious..
You can even add a couple of fresh strawberries if you have them – YUMMMMMY!!
I get my young thai coconuts from Woolworths, as Coles locally won’t stock them. If you need help opening one, just let me know and I can show you how… They are the white coconuts – not the little brown furry ones..

HOME-MADE RICE MILK (from scratch) 1L

Make some brown rice.  You only need 1 cup of cooked brown rice to make 2L of rice milk, but I actually use a little more rice, as I have a great mixer (the VITAMIX) that leaves no chunky bits behind and makes this super thick and frothy and creamy, so I like to add a little more rice than what is necessary.  I am giving you the recipe to make just 1/2L of milk, because it’s easier to make in small batches if you don’t have a good blender/processor.  If you want to double the recipe, do so at will!

So, you will need: (to make 1/2L)

  • 1/4-1/2 cup cooked brown rice
  • 1 medjool date OR a pinch of stevia powder
  • .5L filtered water

Just go ahead and blend this until you can see it’s as creamy and frothy as your processor will get it.  If you have chunks at the end, after several minutes (Vitamix users only need to have the Vitamix on for a minute, tops) then you can strain it through a seive or through a nut milk bag.  Then you can add the caught up chunks from the bag with a little more water in the mixer and then go again, and strain again….  You can really get a whole lot of milk from just a small amount of rice.

If you are lucky enough to have a Vitey (I can help you get one if you want one;-) ) then you won’t need to strain it at all and it should only take about 2 minutes total to make this up.

I always store my milk in a glass jar in the fridge (lid on) and it will keep for up to a week.  You can also freeze it into ice cube trays and keep it so you can use later in smoothies etc.  OR you could just add in your smoothie ingredients like berries, bananas etc etc, and guzzle iMmEdiAtELy!! haha..  Enjoy beautiful peeps!!  Much love and please leave a comment on my page so I can know you were here.
